Most infrared heaters are basically heat-cannons. They blast out a wide range of light, including a lot of bright, visible glare and UV rays. If you’ve ever tried to bathe a baby or step out of a shower under one of these, you know the feeling—it’s like staring into a spotlight. Not exactly the vibe you want for a relaxing bathroom. We decided to fix that by tweaking how the light actually works. Keeping it easy on the eyes To protect your vision (and your kids’), we use special quartz envelopes and internal coatings. Think of them as filters. They strip away that harsh, short-wave visible light and the UV rays, leaving behind only the mid- and long-wave infrared. The result? You get that deep, soothing warmth that sinks into your skin, but without that blinding white light that makes you squint. It’s just heat. No glare, no stress on your eyes. The nuts and bolts Inside the unit, we house a tungsten filament in a high-purity quartz tube. We chose this because bathrooms are brutal—lots of humidity and quick temperature swings. This material can handle that shock without cracking. Now, here is the honest trade-off: because we’re filtering out the harshest light for safety, the “instant” surface heat might feel a tiny bit slower than a raw, unfiltered lamp. It’s a small price to pay for not blinding yourself. Just make sure you get the mounting height right so the warmth hits you perfectly without needing to crank the lamp up to dangerous levels. Getting it installed Since these live in the steamiest room in the house, we’ve focused heavily on the seals. Steam is a silent killer for electronics; it creeps into the terminals and corrodes everything. If you’re wiring these into a ceiling, double-check your IP rating to make sure it’s right for your specific zone. And please, don’t skip the gaskets. A leaky housing lets oxygen in, which burns out the filament way faster than it should. Keep the insides dry, and the heater will last for years.
